Mexico

Where To Stay

Mexico has way more to offer than just Cancun. The thing with Mexico is you need to be sure to check the travel advisory, because crime is a real problem. The cartels are no joke, and there have been reports of shootings even at places you would think would be “off limits” like tourist resorts. Please keep this in mind when planning your trip.

Things To Do

Hot Take: When visiting Mexico, skip Cancun all together and opt to stay in Playa del Carmen, this gives you a safer and more relaxed vibe. Enjoy cocktails by the beach, before beginning your adventure. Make time for Chichén Itzà and Cenote Ik Kil. Check out the Mayan ruins in Tulum before going to the beach club at Nomade Tulum. Visit the Coba Ruins and snap some photos by Cenote Choo-Ha. Book a ferry for the perfect day trip to Isla Mujeros or Cozumel. From the turquoise shores of Playa del Carmen you can access these ancient ruins, sacred cenotes, and snap the perfect photos in paradise.

Lessons Learned when going to Mexico there is so much more to see that you won’t be able to experience if you don’t leave the resort. When I visited I was doing back to back trips and only had about 48 hours in Mexico. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to leave Cancun. If I had to go back and do it again – I’d absolutely skip Cancun, it wasn’t worth it. You don’t get to see the culture, you don’t get to see the history- I’d spend my time in Playa del Carmen, which is actually safer than Cancun and take the day trips I’ve highlighted in my Things To Do section. I would never recommend anything I haven’t done myself or would not want to do myself given the opportunity.
